Dance background

The following is a description of my dance background and history for those who are interested or would like to know more of where I’m coming from:

Creative Dance and Dance Therapy has been a powerful interest for me since 1983. I initially began my exploration of creative dance in workshops with Tony Norquay at the Augustine Centre in Melbourne, finding it a powerful healing medium for a personal crisis at that time. I found the dance to be a lifeline for me during this time which supported me to expand and retrieve suppressed and lost parts of myself in a way that was organic, wild, free and unencumbered by thinking and language.

My love of this medium led me to completing a Graduate Diploma in Movement and Dance at Melbourne University in 1992 followed by three years of Dance Therapy training with the International Dance Therapy Institute of Australia under the guidance of American Dance Therapist, Marcia Leventhal.

Further explorations of dance and improvisation came with weekly attendance at Contact Improvisation at Cecil Street Studios in Melbourne with State of Flux over a five year period and dabbling in Al Wunders Theatre of the Ordinary, also at Cecil Street Studios, Fitzroy.

Over the last 15  years I have been regularly attending 5Rhythms, Heartdance and other creative dance workshops in Melbourne and in the Byron Bay area (before moving to Geelong, the place of my birth, in November 2022).

Most recently I have completed a three year training with Open Floor International as an Open Floor teacher.
